BASTIEN, co-fonder & instructor : As a successful designer, marketeer and communications expert, Bastien escaped the hectic city life of his native France to travel extensively in Asia in search of a simpler life. Along the way, 5 years ago, he found freediving, which proved to be a transformative experience. Bastien became a professional freediver and underwater photographer. Now he uses his old skills to develop his new love: bringing people together, creating collaborations between likeminded spirits and trying to change our attitude towards the environment. In this spirit he co-founded Bluenery and Blunery Academy.
MARINE, instructor : Marine started her exploration of the underwater world as a scuba diver at the age of 8. Diving has always been a big part of her life, and her love for the ocean brings her to study marine biology. During a trip to the Red Sea, Marine finds out about another way of connecting to the ocean, and moving around more freely and more quietly underwater : freediving. She later becomes a scuba diving and freediving instructor, allowing her to share her passions with others.
ILARIA, instructor: was born in Italy. Despite growing-up surrounded by snowy mountains, she much prefers the sea. She enjoys travelling, especially to sunny places with spicy food and clear blue waters. Ilaria is a freediving instructor and yoga teacher. She is constantly inspired by these two disciplines and is very passionate about teaching them to others.
RICHARD, instructor: Richard started freediving when he was traveling in Asia, and what started as a hobby soon became his passion. Over the years he continued traveling to many beautiful dive sites, like Mexico’s cenotes and Hawaii’s blue lagoons. Going back to his native Alpes and diving in his hometown’s chilly lake took some getting used to, but eventually confirmed how much he loved freediving, no matter the conditions. He decided to turn his passion into his profession and became a certified instructor.Richard combines freediving with yoga, which he also teaches.
THOMAS, instructor: With two Master’s degrees, one in environmental law and the other in sustainable development,Thomas started his professional career by working in marine preservation and managing marine fisheries.
As he returned from an 18-month experience in the Arctic region, Thomas went to explore the Egyptian Sinai in 2012 where he came across freediving by chance in Dahab’s mythical “Blue Hole”, and immediately became a fan.
He moved to Nice in 2015 to devote himself fully to freediving – his efforts are rewarded by three French champion titles in CNF (2016, 2017 and 2018), a bronze medal in the European championship (2017) and another in the World Championship (2019).
AIDA instructor since 2016, Thomas has great pleasure in sharing his knowledge and accompanying freedivers and non-divers in the deepening of their aquatic capacities and the exploration of a marvelous tool : breath.
LIBERTÉE, Director of sales, marketing and communication: As daughter of a sailor, grew up in the busy harbour neighbourhood of Nice, “Port de Nice”, and its yacht club dinghies and sailboats, not far from the rocky Coco beach. Her tourism studies led her to travel overseas, and she soon developed a taste for discovery and adventure. She later moved to Paris, where she worked as an international sales rep in the hotel industry. 10 years and many miles later, Libertée moved back to her beloved Mediterrenean and started working as a sales manager for a luxury hotel in Saint-Tropez. Eager to develop alternative, ethical and sustainable tourism for her native region, she then joined the Bluenery team where she occupies the role of business developer.
A huge thanks to Laleh, Arthur and Mickaël for their great help and support in this project.
